Johann Halvorsen

Johann Halvorsen (1864-1935) was a multifaceted Norwegian musical talent, renowned as a composer, conductor, and virtuoso violinist. Born in Drammen, Halvorsen's musical journey took him from his hometown to Oslo and Stockholm for his studies, and later to the prestigious Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. His prowess as a violinist was celebrated, and he served as a concertmaster in Bergen before his tenure in Leipzig. Today, Halvorsen is perhaps best remembered for his ingenious "extrapolation" of George Frideric Handel's passacaglia, a work that showcases his compositional brilliance.
