      About Carl Michael Ziehrer

      Carl Michael Ziehrer, born on May 2, 1843, in Vienna, was a celebrated Austrian composer and conductor, renowned for his vibrant contributions to the world of dance music and operettas. Often hailed as the most successful rival to the famous Strauss family, Ziehrer's prolific career spanned over six decades, during which he composed nearly 600 dances and 23 operettas, leaving an indelible mark on the musical landscape of Vienna around the turn of the 20th century. As the last k.u.k. Hofballmusikdirektor (Imperial and Royal Court Ball Music Director), Ziehrer's compositions, such as "Nachtschwaermer (Night Owl Waltz)" and "Das liegt bei uns im Blut (Mazurka)," continue to captivate audiences with their lively rhythms and enchanting melodies. Ziehrer passed away on November 14, 1922, in Vienna, but his musical legacy endures, offering a delightful journey through the elegant and spirited sounds of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
