      About Ed Thigpen

      Ed Thigpen, born in Chicago in 1930, was an American jazz drummer renowned for his subtle and tasteful style, earning him the nickname "Mr. Taste." Following in his father Ben Thigpen's footsteps, Ed carved out his own legacy, most notably as a member of the Oscar Peterson Trio from 1959 to 1965. His mastery of brushes and innovative techniques made him one of the great brush masters in jazz, capable of making any listener swing with just quarter notes. Prior to his time with Peterson, Thigpen honed his skills with the Billy Taylor Trio from 1956 to 1959. His remarkable touch and feel behind the kit solidified his status as a true innovator in the world of hard bop and jazz. Thigpen's influence and contributions to the genre continue to inspire musicians and enthusiasts alike.
