      Album Details

Dive into the enchanting world of Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari with his captivating album "Wolf-Ferrari: Violinkonzert." This 2014 release from Farao Classics showcases the brilliance of Wolf-Ferrari's Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 26, a piece that beautifully blends classical elegance with a touch of modern charm. The concerto is performed with exquisite skill by Benjamin Schmid, accompanied by the Oviedo Filarmonía under the direction of Friedrich Haider.

The album opens with the dreamy "Fantasia," setting the stage for a journey through the romantic "Romanza," the playful "Improvviso," and the sparkling "Finale. Rondo." Each movement is a testament to Wolf-Ferrari's mastery of composition, offering a rich tapestry of sounds and emotions. Beyond the concerto, the album also includes overtures and intermezzos from some of Wolf-Ferrari's operatic works, such as "Il campiello," "Le donne curiose," "L'amore medico," and "I quatro rusteghi," providing a glimpse into his operatic genius.

Wolf-Ferrari, primarily known for his operas, crafted this violin concerto in 1943, adding a unique dimension to his already impressive repertoire. The concerto's opening dream-tune evokes the spirit of Dvořák and Elgar, while the finale sparkles with a modern twist. Friedrich Haider, a renowned interpreter of Wolf-Ferrari's works, brings his expertise to this recording, ensuring a performance that is both authentic and captivating.

With a total duration of 58 minutes, this album is a perfect blend of classical and operatic elements, offering a rich and varied listening experience. Whether you're a fan of classical music or an opera enthusiast, "Wolf-Ferrari: Violinkonzert" is sure to delight and inspire.

      About Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari

Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, born in Venice in 1876, was a composer whose music beautifully blended the traditions of Italian comic opera and German romanticism. Known for his lyrical melodies and rich harmonic palette, Wolf-Ferrari's works often drew inspiration from the plays of Carlo Goldoni, resulting in operas that were both lighthearted and deeply rooted in Italian culture. His most famous work, "Il segreto di Susanna," is a testament to his ability to create engaging and humorous operatic experiences. Despite his initial pursuits in painting, Wolf-Ferrari's musical talents shone through, leading him to study in Munich and eventually become the director of the Liceo Benedetto Marcello in Venice. His compositions, though sometimes considered archaic by modern standards, showcase a masterful command of melody and a unique fusion of Italian and German musical influences. Wolf-Ferrari's legacy endures through his operas and choral works, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of operatic elegance and charm.
