      About Klaus Mertens

      Klaus Mertens, born in 1949 in Kleve, Germany, is a renowned bass and bass-baritone singer celebrated for his profound interpretations of Baroque music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Mertens is the only vocalist to have recorded the complete Bach cantatas, a monumental achievement accomplished with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir under the direction of Ton Koopman. His extensive discography, nearing 100 recordings, showcases his mastery of the Baroque oratorio and concert repertoire, as well as his versatility in Classical and Romantic music. Mertens' rich and expressive voice, coupled with his deep musical insight, makes him a sought-after performer in the world of classical vocal music.
