      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the virtuosic world of Henryk Wieniawski with this captivating album, released on April 1, 2013, by DUX. A celebrated violinist and composer of the Romantic era, Wieniawski's technical brilliance and expressive depth are showcased in this collection of his most renowned works.

The album features Wieniawski's two iconic violin concertos: the Violin Concerto No. 1 in F-Sharp Minor, Op. 14, and the Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22. Each concerto is a masterclass in violin technique and emotional range, with the first concerto's lyrical beauty and the second's dramatic intensity. The performances by Vadim Brodsky, accompanied by Antoni Wit and the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, bring these works to life with precision and passion.

In addition to the concertos, the album includes the Fantaisie brillante on themes from Gounod's Faust, Op. 20, a dazzling display of Wieniawski's ability to weave popular themes into his own virtuosic style. The Kujawiak in A Minor and the Obertas from 2 Mazurkas, Op. 19, add a touch of Polish folk flavor to the collection, highlighting Wieniawski's connection to his cultural roots.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 13 minutes, this album offers a comprehensive exploration of Wieniawski's contributions to the violin repertoire. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a testament to the enduring appeal of Wieniawski's music.

      About Henryk Wieniawski

Henryk Wieniawski, born in Lublin, Poland, in 1835, was a prodigious talent whose virtuosic violin playing and compositions have left an indelible mark on the classical music world. Recognized as one of the most celebrated violinists of the 19th century, Wieniawski's career began in earnest at the age of 16 after studying under the renowned teacher Massart at the Paris Conservatoire. His extraordinary skill and musicality quickly established him as a leading figure in the violin world, performing across Europe and composing works that continue to be staples in the violin repertoire today. Among his notable compositions are the Polonaise de Concert, Op. 4, and L'école moderne, Op. 10, which showcase his technical brilliance and expressive depth. Wieniawski's influence extended beyond his performances and compositions; he was also a dedicated pedagogue, inspiring future generations of violinists. His legacy lives on through the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, held every five years in Poznań, Poland, which attracts young talents from around the world. Wieniawski's musical genius and contributions to the violin repertoire ensure his place among the most distinguished musicians in history.
