      Album Details

Circa Waves' third studio album, What's It Like Over There?, marks a significant milestone in the band's discography. Released on 5 April 2019 via Prolifica Inc., this 10-track indie rock masterpiece showcases the Liverpool-based quartet's growth and maturity. The album's passionate anthems, such as 'Movies' and 'Times Won't Change Me', demonstrate a nuanced approach to their sound, trading in some of their earlier nervous energy for a more refined and sophisticated style.

Produced by the esteemed Alan Moulder, known for his work with Foals, What's It Like Over There? is a testament to Circa Waves' ability to craft infectious and memorable songs. With a runtime of just 30 minutes, the album is a concise and impactful collection of tracks, including 'Sorry I'm Yours', 'Me, Myself and Hollywood', and 'Be Somebody Good'. Throughout the record, lead vocalist and guitarist Kieran Shudall's distinctive voice shines, backed by the talented Joe Falconer on guitar, Sam Rourke on bass, and Colin Jones on drums.

While some critics have noted a mixed response to the album, with a Metacritic score of 59 out of 100, fans and reviewers alike have praised Circa Waves' bold new direction. Dylan Tuck of The Skinny has drawn comparisons to Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, highlighting the band's willingness to experiment and push boundaries. With What's It Like Over There?, Circa Waves have undoubtedly cemented their position as a prominent force in the UK indie rock scene, and this album is sure to delight both longtime fans and new listeners alike.

      About Circa Waves

Hailing from the vibrant music scene of Liverpool, Circa Waves have been making waves in the indie rock world since their formation in 2013. Comprising frontman Kieran Shudall, guitarist Joe Falconer, bassist Sam Rourke, and drummer Colin Jones, the band quickly gained traction with their energetic live performances and catchy, anthemic tunes. Their journey began at the Liverpool Sound City music festival, where the members first crossed paths, leading to a shared passion for creating infectious indie rock.

Circa Waves' discography boasts five studio albums, with their latest release, "Death & Love, Pt. 1," hitting the shelves on January 31, 2025. The album is a testament to the band's evolution, blending influences from the indie music of the 2010s with their unique creative flair. Their previous album, "Never Going Under," released in 2023, further solidified their status as a formidable force in the indie rock genre.

The band's rise to fame was bolstered by early support from BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who played their demo for "Young Chasers" multiple times before they had even performed live. This early hype led to a whirlwind of shows, initially under the name Malkovich, before settling on Circa Waves. Their live performances are renowned for their high energy, making them a must-see act at festivals and venues alike.

With a dedicated fanbase and a reputation for delivering powerful live shows, Circa Waves continue to tour extensively, captivating audiences across the UK, EU, and US. Their music, characterized by its infectious melodies and heartfelt lyrics, resonates with fans who appreciate the raw energy and authenticity that Circa Waves bring to the stage. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to their music, Circa Waves' live performances are an experience not to be missed.
