      Samuel Sebastian Wesley, born in London on August 14, 1810, was a towering figure in English church music, renowned as both an organist and a composer. As the son of Samuel Wesley, grandson of Charles Wesley, and great-nephew of John Wesley, music was deeply ingrained in his heritage. Wesley's compositions and organ playing were so influential that he is often credited with revitalizing English Cathedral Music, particularly through his innovative settings of the Canticles. His personal life was marked by his marriage to Mary Anne Merewether, with whom he had six children.
