This pressing is alright, but it's clear it's sourced from the dynamically constrained older digital masters, likely the 2012 hi-res files. The first couple of tracks have some really noticeable compression pumping, almost like the kick and snare drums are sidechained to the vocals. I picked up this version when it dropped in May 2024, but then I got the 25th anniversary box set with the new remaster done at Sterling, and it's way more detailed and dynamic. The drums have more definition on the 25th anniversary cut, and there's more spatial depth, though this 2024 Bellman cut has some nice guitar grit. This pressing isn't bad, but now that there's a better option available, I'd go for the 25th anniversary remaster. Listening setup: Rega P6, Ortofon MC Cadenza Bronze, Stein Music 'The Perfect Interface' turntable mat, Liberty B2B-1 phono preamp, Hegel H95 integrated amp, MOFI Sourcepoint 8 speakers, Spiral Groove and Audioquest cabling.
The audio quality is great, and the orange hue on this vinyl really stands out, so I'm pretty pleased with this record!
This album is absolutely fantastic! I had the original UK version before, and I gotta say, this 2025 release is just as great, maybe even better. It's way superior to that 2024 green see-through reissue. I haven't gotten around to checking out the demos, B sides, and live tracks in this box set yet, but I'm really excited to dive in. This box set is a total 10/10!
Alright album, it's clear and sounds like my old CD. Has some pops when switching songs. Not a big deal.
