Émile Waldteufel, born Charles Émile Lévy in Strasbourg, France, in 1837, was a master of the waltz, earning him the title "The Waltz King." Hailing from a family of Jewish Alsatian musicians, Waldteufel's musical journey began under the tutelage of his parents and continued at the prestigious Paris Conservatory. Waldteufel's career flourished under the patronage of Empress Eugénie, for whom he served as court pianist. His legacy as a composer of dance music remains unparalleled, making him a beloved figure in the world of classical and salon music.
