      Album Details

Rolando Villazón, the renowned tenor, celebrates the genius of Giuseppe Verdi with this captivating 2012 album, released just ahead of Verdi's bicentennial. "Villazón - Verdi" is a testament to Villazón's artistry and his deep connection with Verdi's music, featuring a selection of arias and vocal pieces that span the composer's career, from his early opera "Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio" to his final masterpiece, "Falstaff."

This album is a journey through Verdi's operatic landscape, showcasing Villazón's powerful and expressive voice. It includes some of Verdi's most beloved tunes, such as "La donna è mobile" from "Rigoletto" and "Lunge da lei" from "La traviata," as well as lesser-known gems like "Brezza del suol natio" from "I due Foscari" and "Fontainebleau! Foresta immensa e solitaria!" from "Don Carlo." The album also features Villazón's championing of Luciano Berio's transcription of Verdi's "8 Romanze per tenore e orchestra," a lesser-known but significant part of Verdi's vocal output.

Recorded in the mid-2000s, before Villazón's vocal surgery, this album captures the tenor at the height of his powers. His performances are marked by their technical virtuosity and profound musical insight, bringing a fresh perspective to these well-loved works. The album is a fitting tribute to Verdi, showcasing the enduring power of his music and the enduring appeal of Villazón's artistry. With a duration of 56 minutes, it's a concise yet comprehensive exploration of Verdi's operatic world, perfect for both casual listeners and opera enthusiasts.
