      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the sacred and serene world of Tomás Luis de Victoria with his captivating album, "Missa Trahe me post te & Other Sacred Music." Released on October 1, 1994, under the Hyperion label, this album is a profound exploration of Gregorian chant, choral, medieval, and requiem genres, spanning a total duration of 1 hour and 7 minutes.

The album centers around the Missa Trahe me post te, a deeply moving mass that showcases Victoria's mastery of polyphonic choral writing. Each section of the mass—from the solemn Kyrie to the triumphant Gloria, the contemplative Credo, the reverent Sanctus and Benedictus, and the poignant Agnus Dei—is a testament to Victoria's ability to evoke a sense of divine worship and spiritual reflection.

Beyond the mass, the album features a collection of other sacred works, including the tender Alma redemptoris mater, the joyful Ave Regina caelorum, the exultant Regina caeli, the supplicatory Salve Regina, and the majestic Magnificat primi toni. These pieces, performed with meticulous attention to historical accuracy and musical expression, offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Renaissance sacred music.

Tomás Luis de Victoria, a Spanish composer of the Renaissance period, is renowned for his profound contributions to sacred choral music. His works, characterized by their emotional depth, technical brilliance, and spiritual resonance, continue to inspire and uplift audiences centuries after their creation. This album is a celebration of Victoria's enduring legacy, inviting you to experience the timeless beauty of his music.

      About Tomás Luis de Victoria

Tomás Luis de Victoria, born around 1548 in Sanchidrián, Spain, is celebrated as the most renowned Spanish composer of the Renaissance era. His musical journey began as a choirboy in Ávila Cathedral, where he also honed his skills on the keyboard. Victoria's career flourished in both Spain and Italy, and he is revered for his intense and deeply emotional motets, as well as his profound compositions for the Offices of the Dead and Holy Week. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Victoria's extensive body of work is almost exclusively devoted to sacred and polyphonic vocal music, set to Latin texts. His contributions to the Roman Catholic Counter-Reformation are monumental, placing him alongside giants like Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Orlande de Lassus. Victoria's legacy endures, inspiring generations with his timeless choral masterpieces.
