      Verismo Arias - Mirella Freni

      Album Details

Dive into the heart of Italian verismo opera with Mirella Freni's captivating album, "Verismo Arias," released in 1992. This exquisite collection showcases Freni's remarkable vocal prowess and dramatic intensity, featuring arias that highlight her status as one of the most celebrated lyric sopranos of the 20th century. The album spans a variety of iconic roles and operas, each aria a testament to Freni's ability to convey profound human experiences with unparalleled artistry.

From the haunting "La mamma morta" from Andrea Chénier to the poignant "Ebben? Ne andrò lontana" from La Wally, Freni's performances are marked by a deep understanding of the characters and their stories. Her rendition of "Oh! mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi is particularly notable, showcasing her technical brilliance and emotional depth. The album also includes lesser-known but equally powerful arias, such as "Dio pietoso" from Risurrezione and "Amor, celeste ebbrezza" from Loreley, offering a comprehensive exploration of the verismo repertoire.

Recorded with the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice under the direction of Roberto Abbado, this album benefits from a rich orchestral accompaniment that complements Freni's vocal mastery. The 56-minute duration ensures a satisfying listening experience, making it an essential addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you are a long-time admirer of Mirella Freni or new to the world of verismo opera, this album promises a rich and rewarding experience.
