      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Hungarian classical music with Sándor Veress's captivating album, released on July 15, 2014, under the Hungaroton label. This one-hour collection is a testament to Veress's mastery, featuring a diverse array of compositions that showcase his versatility and depth as a composer.

The album opens with the Violin Sonata No. 2, a piece that beautifully balances melodious and rhythmic elements, as evidenced by the titles of its movements, "Dallamos" (Melodious) and "Kopogos" (Rapping). Following this, the Violin Sonata No. 1 unfolds in three distinct movements, each offering a unique emotional and musical landscape.

A highlight of the album is the "Jozsef Attila dalok" (Jozsef Songs), a series of five hauntingly beautiful songs that draw inspiration from the poetry of Jozsef Attila. These songs, each with its own distinct character, provide a profound exploration of the human condition.

The album also includes the lively "Nógrádi verbunkos" (Nógrád Recruiting Dance) and the energetic "Cuka szoke csardas" (Hungarian Folkdance), both of which showcase Veress's ability to blend traditional Hungarian folk elements with classical composition techniques.

The Violin Sonatina, with its three contrasting movements, rounds out the album, demonstrating Veress's skill in crafting concise yet impactful musical narratives. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rewarding listening experience that highlights the enduring appeal of Sándor Veress's music.

      About Sándor Veress

Sándor Veress, born in 1907 in Kolozsvár, now Cluj-Napoca, Romania, was a composer who bridged two musical worlds: his native Hungary and his adopted home of Switzerland. Veress's early career was deeply influenced by his work with László Lajtha at the Budapest Ethnological Museum and his association with Béla Bartók, reflecting in his compositions a rich tapestry of Hungarian folk music traditions. His later life, spent in Switzerland from 1949 until his death in 1992, saw him become a Swiss citizen and continue his prolific compositional journey. Veress's works, including his evocative 'Transylvanian Dances' and his string quartets, showcase his unique voice, blending his Hungarian heritage with the influences of his Swiss environment. His music remains a testament to his cultural journey and his enduring legacy as a composer.
