      Album Details

Dive into the rich musical tapestry of Sándor Veress with this captivating album, released on July 15, 2014, under the Hungaroton label. This collection offers a profound exploration of Veress's compositions, showcasing his unique blend of East European influences and classical sophistication.

The album opens with Veress's Symphony No. 1, a three-movement masterpiece that unfolds with a sense of grandeur and introspection. The first movement, "Preludio: Allegro moderato," sets the stage with its moderate tempo and intricate orchestration, while the second movement, "Andante," invites listeners into a world of contemplative beauty. The symphony concludes with the lively "Finale: Allegro vivace," leaving a lasting impression of Veress's compositional prowess.

Following the symphony, the album presents "4 Danze Transilvane," a suite of four dances that capture the essence of Transylvanian folk music. Each dance, from the delicate "Lassu: Poco rubato" to the energetic "Dobbantos: Allegro vivace," offers a glimpse into the vibrant cultural heritage that inspired Veress's work.

The album culminates with the Clarinet Concerto, a stunning display of virtuosity and musical depth. The concerto's two movements, "Intonazione per tutti i dodici suoni: Andante" and "Danza immaginaria: Allegro vivace," showcase Veress's ability to blend technical brilliance with emotional resonance.

Performed by the Savaria Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Tamás Pál, with László Horváth on clarinet, this album is a testament to Veress's enduring legacy. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Veress's work, this collection promises a rewarding and enriching listening experience.

      About Sándor Veress

Sándor Veress, born in 1907 in Kolozsvár, now Cluj-Napoca, Romania, was a composer who bridged two musical worlds: his native Hungary and his adopted home of Switzerland. Veress's early career was deeply influenced by his work with László Lajtha at the Budapest Ethnological Museum and his association with Béla Bartók, reflecting in his compositions a rich tapestry of Hungarian folk music traditions. His later life, spent in Switzerland from 1949 until his death in 1992, saw him become a Swiss citizen and continue his prolific compositional journey. Veress's works, including his evocative 'Transylvanian Dances' and his string quartets, showcase his unique voice, blending his Hungarian heritage with the influences of his Swiss environment. His music remains a testament to his cultural journey and his enduring legacy as a composer.
