      About Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer

Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer, born into one of the Netherlands' oldest and most influential noble families, was a man of many talents: diplomat, administrator, and composer. Born in 1692 at the family castle of Twickel, near Delden, van Wassenaer's musical journey began in The Hague, where he received his early education in harpsichord and violin. His musical prowess was further honed during a grand tour of Europe, which exposed him to the vibrant musical scenes of Germany, France, and Italy. Van Wassenaer's most renowned works are the Concerti Armonici, a series of concertos that were mistakenly attributed to other composers for centuries. His compositions, characterized by their elegance and sophistication, reflect the cultural richness of his era. Beyond his musical achievements, van Wassenaer's administrative skills were evident in his reorganization of the Bailiwick of Utrecht of the Teutonic Order, showcasing his versatility and dedication to both the arts and governance.
