      Uncommon Ritual - Edgar Meyer

      Album Details

Edgar Meyer's "Uncommon Ritual," released in 1997 under Sony Classical, is a groundbreaking instrumental album that defies conventional genre classifications. Blending elements of bluegrass, newgrass, and other diverse musical influences, this 17-track collection showcases Meyer's virtuosity on the bass alongside the masterful contributions of Béla Fleck on banjo and Mike Marshall on mandolin.

The album is a testament to the innovative spirit of its creators, featuring a unique instrumentation that sets it apart from traditional string trio recordings. Tracks like "Sliding Down," "Old Tyme," and "In the Garden" highlight the trio's ability to seamlessly merge classical, folk, and bluegrass traditions into a cohesive and captivating musical experience. The inclusion of pieces like "Contramonkey" and "Big Country" demonstrates their playful and experimental approach, while the more contemplative "By The River" and "Child's Play" offer moments of serene beauty.

With a runtime of over an hour and seventeen minutes, "Uncommon Ritual" is a rich and varied journey through the musical landscapes that Edgar Meyer, Béla Fleck, and Mike Marshall explore together. The album's critical acclaim and enduring popularity make it a standout in the careers of these acclaimed musicians, offering both longtime fans and new listeners a chance to appreciate their extraordinary talent and creativity.
