      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Viktor Ullmann's piano sonatas with this exquisite collection, featuring Piano Sonatas Nos. 5, 6, and 7. Ullmann, a Silesia-born Austrian composer, conductor, and pianist, offers a profound and introspective journey through his musical genius, culminating in a powerful exploration of the human experience.

Recorded at Oktaven Audio in Yonkers, New York, this album showcases the brilliance of pianist Jeanne Golan, who masterfully interprets Ullmann's intricate compositions. The sonatas, performed on a Steinway Model D piano, are a testament to Ullmann's restlessly creative spirit and his ability to convey deep emotion through his music.

The album begins with the spirited Allegro con brio of Piano Sonata No. 5, Op. 45, followed by the serene Andante and the lively Toccatina. The Serenade and the dynamic Finale fugato complete this sonata, offering a rich tapestry of musical expression. Piano Sonata No. 6, Op. 49, continues the journey with its Allegro molto, the graceful Allegretto grazioso, and the energetic Presto ma non troppo. The sonata concludes with a return to the Allegro molto, tying the pieces together in a harmonious whole.

Piano Sonata No. 7 takes the listener on a journey through various moods and tempos, from the spirited Allegro to the measured Alla marcia ben misurato, the contemplative Adagio ma non moto, and the playful Scherzo. The sonata culminates in a set of Variations and Fugue based on a Hebrew folk-song, showcasing Ullmann's unique ability to blend cultural influences into his compositions.

This album is a testament to Viktor Ullmann's enduring legacy and his contribution to the world of classical music. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this collection of piano sonatas is sure to captivate and inspire.
