      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the hauntingly beautiful world of Viktor Ullmann's "Musica Rediviva," a captivating album that brings to life the works of a composer whose genius was tragically cut short. Born in Teschen in 1898, Ullmann's music is a testament to his enduring legacy, blending the influences of his time in Vienna and Prague with a unique, innovative spirit.

This album, released on January 1, 2016, by the esteemed label Orfeo, features a stunning collection of chamber music that showcases Ullmann's mastery of the form. The tracks range from the lively "Don Quixote tanzt Fandango" to the profound "Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke," a work based on Rainer Maria Rilke's poem, arranged intriguingly for narrator and chamber ensemble. The album also includes Ullmann's Piano Concerto, Op. 25, a piece that highlights his ability to blend classical structures with a deeply personal expressive language.

Performances by the Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Gerd Albrecht, along with vocalists Erika Pluhar and Ruža Pospiš-Baldani, bring Ullmann's compositions to life with precision and passion. Albrecht, known for his commitment to reviving the works of composers persecuted by the Nazis, provides a fitting tribute to Ullmann's enduring legacy.

"Musica Rediviva" is not just an album but a journey through the life and times of Viktor Ullmann, a composer who, despite facing immense adversity, created music that continues to resonate with audiences today. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a profound and enriching listening experience.
