      Album Details

Edgar Moreau, the acclaimed French cellist, presents "Transmission," a deeply personal and captivating exploration of his Jewish heritage through the lens of classical music. Released on January 14, 2022, via Warner Classics, this album is a testament to Moreau's artistic growth and his connection to his roots.

"Transmission" features a rich tapestry of works by composers who have been inspired by Jewish themes and traditions. The album opens with Ernest Bloch's "From Jewish Life," a suite that beautifully captures the spirit and essence of Jewish life through three distinct movements. Bloch's "Schelomo," a rhapsody for cello and orchestra, is also included, showcasing Moreau's virtuosity and the depth of his interpretation.

The centerpiece of the album is Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Cello Concerto in C Major, Op. 37, a work that blends the romanticism of the late 19th century with the emerging styles of the 20th century. The concerto's three movements offer a range of moods and textures, from the fiery Allegro moderato to the introspective Grave - Lento.

Max Bruch's "Kol Nidrei," a deeply expressive work for cello and orchestra, is another highlight of the album. This piece, inspired by the Jewish prayer of the same name, is a poignant reflection on faith and tradition.

The album concludes with Maurice Ravel's "2 Mélodies hébraïques," a pair of songs that draw on Jewish liturgical themes. These works, performed with sensitivity and nuance, provide a fitting conclusion to an album that is as much a journey of self-discovery as it is a celebration of musical heritage.

With a duration of just over an hour, "Transmission" is a compelling and engaging exploration of Jewish-inspired music. Moreau's collaboration with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and conductor Michael Sanderling results in a performance that is both technically impressive and deeply moving. Whether you are a fan of classical music or simply curious about the intersection of music and heritage, "Transmission" is an album that will captivate and inspire.
