      Transmigration - Robert Spano

      Album Details

"Transmigration" is a profound and moving collection of 20th- and 21st-century works curated by the esteemed conductor Robert Spano, featuring the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Choruses. Released on July 28, 2009, under the Telarc label, this album spans a duration of 1 hour and 12 minutes, offering a deeply resonant exploration of themes of loss and remembrance.

The album opens with Samuel Barber's haunting "Adagio for Strings, Op. 11," a piece renowned for its poignant beauty and emotional depth. It continues with "Dooryard Bloom," followed by John Corigliano's "Elegy," each contributing to the album's overarching narrative of reflection and sorrow. The centerpiece of the collection is John Adams' "On the Transmigration of Souls," a work commissioned by the New York Philharmonic in memory of the events of September 11, 2001. The album concludes with Barber's "Agnus Dei," a choral adaptation of his "Adagio for Strings," adding a solemn and contemplative finale.

"Transmigration" is a testament to the power of music to convey profound human experiences. Robert Spano's masterful direction and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's exquisite performance make this album a compelling listen for those who appreciate the depth and richness of classical and contemporary orchestral works.
