      Album Details

In 2000, Destroyer, the project of Canadian musician Dan Bejar, delivered a pivotal moment in their discography with "Thief." This third studio album marked a significant shift from the lo-fi, solo recordings of their earlier works, as it was the first to feature a full band on every track. Recorded and produced at JC/DC Studios from July to September 1999, "Thief" showcases a cleaner, more polished sound that blends chamber pop and art pop elements seamlessly.

"Thief" opens with a powerful one-two punch of "Destroyer's the Temple" and "To the Heart of the Sun on the Back of the Vulture, I'll Go," setting a strong foundation for the album's 43-minute duration. The tracklist is a journey through Bejar's distinctive lyrical prowess and the band's intricate musical arrangements. Standout tracks like "City of Daughters" and "Queen of Languages" highlight the album's strengths, while "Every Christmas" offers a moment of introspection amidst the upbeat tracks.

The album's production quality and full-band performance make "Thief" a standout release in Destroyer's catalog. It's a testament to the band's growth and evolution, offering fans a rich and engaging listening experience. With its unique blend of genres and Bejar's signature songwriting, "Thief" remains a captivating addition to any music collection.
