      Album Details

Theo Loevendie's 1991 avant-garde album, "Venus and Adonis, Six Turkish Folkpoems," is a captivating exploration of musical diversity and innovation. This album showcases Loevendie's versatility and mastery, blending classical influences with contemporary experimentation. The album opens with the enchanting "Venus and Adonis," a two-part composition that draws inspiration from classical mythology, followed by "Strides," a piece that highlights Loevendie's ability to create dynamic and engaging musical landscapes. The heart of the album lies in the "Six Turkish Folkpoems," a collection of six distinct tracks that weave traditional Turkish folk melodies with modern classical arrangements, offering a rich tapestry of cultural fusion. The album also includes "Music for flute and piano," a delicate and introspective piece, and "Two songs," featuring settings of texts by Campion and Shakespeare, showcasing Loevendie's skill in vocal composition. The album concludes with "Back bay bicinium," a duet that adds a final layer of depth and complexity to the collection. Performed by the Nieuw Ensemble and conducted by Ed Spanjaard, this album is a testament to Loevendie's artistic vision and his ability to push the boundaries of classical music. With a duration of just over an hour, it offers a comprehensive journey through Loevendie's unique musical world, making it a standout release in the avant-garde genre.
