      Album Details

Isabelle van Keulen, a renowned violinist, presents a captivating exploration of the violin sonata's evolution around the turn of the 20th century with her album "The Violin Sonata Around 1900." Released on April 17, 2009, under the Challenge Classics label, this chamber music collection showcases her virtuosity alongside pianist Ronald Brautigam. The album features a diverse repertoire, including works by Richard Strauss, Nino Rota, and Ottorino Respighi, each offering a unique perspective on the violin sonata's development during this transformative period.

The album's nine tracks span a total duration of one hour and seven minutes, providing a comprehensive journey through the sonatas' intricate compositions. From the delicate nuances of Respighi's "Sonata for Violin and Piano in B Minor" to the dynamic energy of Strauss's "Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-Flat Major, Op. 18," van Keulen and Brautigam's performances are marked by technical precision and expressive depth. The album's genres, classical and chamber music, highlight the collaborative artistry between the violin and piano, creating a rich tapestry of sound.

This album is not just a collection of sonatas but a testament to the innovative spirit of the early 20th century, reflecting the composers' responses to the changing musical landscape. Isabelle van Keulen's masterful interpretation brings these historical works to life, offering listeners a profound appreciation for the violin sonata's enduring legacy.
