      Album Details

Dive into the vibrant world of cool jazz and hard bop with Al Cohn's "The Swingin' Sessions 1954-1955 Vol. 3," a captivating collection of 25 tracks that showcase the legendary saxophonist's mastery and versatility. Released on December 10, 2021, by Fresh Sound Records, this album is a treasure trove of classic jazz performances that span a little over an hour and eighteen minutes, offering a rich and immersive listening experience.

Al Cohn, known for his smooth tone and inventive phrasing, is joined by an impressive lineup of musicians, including Joe Newman on trumpet, Urbie Green on trombone, Freddie Green on guitar, and Gene Quill on alto saxophone. Together, they bring to life a diverse set of tunes, ranging from up-tempo swing numbers like "Swingin' the Blues" and "Swinging Back" to soulful ballads such as "Lament for a Lost Love" and "Learnin' the Blues."

The album opens with the lively "You Can Depend on Me," setting the stage for a journey through a mix of standards and original compositions. Standout tracks include the playful "Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails," the bluesy "Feed Bag," and the tender "When You Wish Upon a Star," each showcasing the band's dynamic range and musical chemistry.
