      Album Details

Dive into the avant-garde jazz realm with Wayne Horvitz's "The Snowghost Sessions," a captivating album released on October 5, 2018, under the Songlines label. This collection of 14 tracks, spanning 51 minutes, is a testament to Horvitz's mastery of the genre, offering a unique blend of free jazz and avant-garde elements that will intrigue both seasoned jazz enthusiasts and curious newcomers.

"The Snowghost Sessions" marks Wayne Horvitz's first trio record since the 1980s and his debut piano/keys-bass-drums album. The album is the result of a weeklong residency at SnowGhost in Whitefish, Montana, featuring the rhythmic prowess of Seattle-based contrabassist Geoff Harper and drummer Eric Eagle. The collaboration brings a fresh perspective to Horvitz's compositions, with the trio navigating through intricate melodies and improvisational segments that showcase each member's individual strengths.

The album opens with "The Pauls," setting the tone for the eclectic journey ahead. Tracks like "No Blood Relation #1" and "Apart from You #1" highlight Horvitz's knack for creating evocative atmospheres, while "Northampton" and "55 6 (21) Variations" demonstrate his compositional prowess. The bonus track, "American Bandstand," serves as a delightful encore, rounding off the album with a touch of nostalgia.

Horvitz's signature style shines through in each track, with his piano and keys work taking center stage, supported by the dynamic interplay between Harper and Eagle. The album's diverse range of compositions, from the bluesy melodies of "Trish" to the experimental sounds of "For James Tenney," ensures that there's something for every jazz aficionado to appreciate.

"The Snowghost Sessions" is not just an album; it's an exploration of sound and improvisation, a celebration of Horvitz's enduring talent, and a testament to the power of collaboration. Whether you're a long-time fan of Wayne Horvitz or a newcomer to his work, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.
