      About Hans Tammen

      Hans Tammen is a pioneering experimental guitarist and composer, originally from Germany, now based in Brooklyn, New York. Known for his innovative and radical approach to the guitar, Tammen's performances are a thrilling exploration of sound, often involving a wide array of mechanical preparations on his instrument. His style, which he terms "endangered guitar," pushes the boundaries of what the guitar can do, creating a unique and captivating sonic experience.

      Tammen's work spans across experimental and free jazz genres, and his rapid-fire juxtapositions of contrasting sounds capture the raw energy and abstract beauty of his compositions. Beyond his performances, Tammen is also a dedicated educator, currently teaching at the School of Visual Arts, Hunter College, and NYU Steinhardt.
