      Album Details

John Corigliano's "The Red Violin Concerto" is a captivating journey through the realms of contemporary classical music. Released on Sony Classical in 2007, this album showcases Corigliano's Oscar-winning score from the film "The Red Violin," reimagined and expanded into a full concerto. The album features the renowned violinist Joshua Bell, conductor Marin Alsop, and pianist Jeremy Denk, delivering a powerful and evocative performance.

The concerto is divided into four movements, each with its unique character and depth. The first movement, "Chaconne," is a tour de force for the solo violin, showcasing Bell's virtuosity and technical prowess. The second movement, "Pianissimo scherzo," offers a contrast with its delicate and intimate atmosphere. The third movement, "Andante flautando," is a hauntingly beautiful piece that highlights the expressive range of the violin. The final movement, "Accelerando finale," brings the concerto to a thrilling and dramatic conclusion.

In addition to the concerto, the album also includes Corigliano's Violin Sonata, performed by Bell and Denk. This four-movement work is a testament to the composer's ability to blend lyrical melodies with complex rhythms and harmonies.

Recorded at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, the album benefits from the excellent acoustics and the top-notch performances of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The sound quality is superb, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the intricacies of Corigliano's composition and the artistry of the performers.

"The Red Violin Concerto" is a significant addition to the contemporary classical music repertoire, offering a rich and rewarding listening experience. Whether you're a fan of John Corigliano's work or simply appreciate fine classical music, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
