Beyond his political career, Rex is a renowned trumpet soloist and professor of trumpet and jazz at Virginia Commonwealth University. A Yamaha Performing Artist, he has performed with acclaimed ensembles like Rhythm & Brass and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble. His music, rooted in hard bop, reflects his rich experiences and dedication to empowering communities. When he's not making waves in politics or jazz, Rex enjoys spending time with his family, tending to his plants, and exploring his passion for wine.
