      Album Details

Ruth Slenczynska, a name synonymous with piano virtuosity, presents "The Legacy of a Genius," a captivating journey through the realms of classical piano music. Released in 1998, this album is a testament to Slenczynska's extraordinary talent and her deep connection with the piano repertoire.

The album opens with Bach's "Italian Concerto," a piece that showcases Slenczynska's technical prowess and musical sensitivity. The three movements of the concerto are performed with a clarity and precision that bring out the intricate details of Bach's composition. Following this, the "Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue" and the "Toccata" further demonstrate Slenczynska's ability to handle complex and demanding pieces with ease.

The album also features works by Chopin and Liszt, transcribed and performed by Slenczynska. Her interpretations of Chopin's "Chants Polonais" and Liszt's "Consolations" and "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15" are particularly noteworthy. These pieces are performed with a depth of expression and a nuanced understanding of the composers' styles, making them stand out as highlights of the album.

"Legacy of a Genius" is not just a collection of piano pieces; it is a showcase of Ruth Slenczynska's artistry. Her playing is characterized by a delicate touch, a keen sense of phrasing, and a deep understanding of the music. Each note she plays seems to tell a story, drawing the listener in and holding their attention throughout the album.

The album's duration of just over an hour makes it an ideal choice for a focused listening session. The sound quality is excellent, with a clear and balanced recording that allows the piano's tone to shine. Whether you are a fan of classical piano music or simply appreciate fine musicianship, "The Legacy of a Genius" is sure to impress.

      About Ruth Slenczynska

Ruth Slenczynska is a legendary American classical pianist who has left an indelible mark on the music world. Born in Sacramento, California, on January 15, 1925, Slenczynska began her musical journey at the tender age of three, under the rigorous guidance of her father, violinist Josef Slenczynski. By four, she was already giving recitals, and her prodigious talent soon led her to study with some of the most renowned pianists of the 20th century, including Arthur Schnabel, Egon Petri, Alfred Cortot, and Joseph Hofmann. Most notably, she is the last living pupil of the great Sergei Rachmaninoff, even stepping in for him in a performance when he was indisposed.

Slenczynska's career spans an astonishing nine decades, during which she has performed for four U.S. Presidents and released numerous albums. Her discography includes works by Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Debussy, and many others. In addition to her performing career, Slenczynska has been a dedicated teacher, sharing her wisdom and experience with students for over three decades. She has also authored books on piano technique and music, further cementing her legacy as a master of her craft. Even at 100 years old, Slenczynska continues to inspire with her remarkable journey and enduring passion for music.
