      Album Details

Embark on a musical journey through the rich cultural tapestry of Italy and Spain with Pietro Locatelli's captivating album, "The Italian and Spanish Music." Released in 2012 by JSC "Firma Melodiya," this enchanting collection showcases the virtuosity of Pietro Locatelli, a master of the violin, as he interprets a diverse range of compositions that span from sonatas to popular Spanish songs and dances.

The album opens with the profound "Violin Sonata in F Minor, Op. 6 No. 7 'Au Tombeau'," a four-movement masterpiece that highlights Locatelli's technical prowess and emotional depth. The sonata's somber opening gives way to lively allegros and tender adagios, demonstrating the full spectrum of Locatelli's expressive capabilities.

Beyond the sonata, the album delves into a variety of musical styles, including the charming "2 Pezzi, Op. 24: No. 2, Serenata napoletana," and the lively "6 Sonatas, Op. 2 No. 1" and "6 Sonatas, Op. 2 No. 6." The inclusion of "7 Canciones populares Españolas," arranged by Paul Kochanski, adds a touch of Spanish flair, with each song offering a glimpse into the vibrant musical traditions of Spain.

The album concludes with a selection of Spanish dances, including the passionate "Andaluza" from "12 Danzas Españolas" and the dynamic "Zapateado" from "Spanish Dances, Book 3, Op. 23." These pieces are performed with such precision and energy that they bring the listener right into the heart of a Spanish fiesta.

Throughout the album, Locatelli's playing is supported by the skilled accompaniment of Naum Walter on piano and Andrei Mytnik on cello, creating a rich and immersive sound that transports the listener to the bustling streets of Naples and the sun-drenched plazas of Spain. With a total runtime of 54 minutes, "The Italian and Spanish Music" is a delightful exploration of two of Europe's most musically rich cultures, as seen through the eyes of one of the violin's greatest virtuosos.
