      Album Details

Experience the timeless elegance of Jacqueline du Pré's virtuosity with "The Genius of Jacqueline du Pré," a captivating compilation released by Warner Classics. This album, spanning a little over an hour, showcases du Pré's unparalleled mastery of the cello through a selection of iconic classical pieces.

The album opens with Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007, a work that highlights du Pré's technical precision and expressive depth. The suite's six movements, from the serene Prelude to the lively Gigue, demonstrate her ability to convey both tranquility and energy.

Following Bach, the album features Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Trio No. 5 in D Major, Op. 70 No. 1, known as the "Ghost." Du Pré's collaboration with Daniel Barenboim and Pinchas Zukerman brings out the trio's dramatic contrasts and lyrical beauty, making it a standout performance.

The album concludes with Luigi Boccherini's Cello Concerto No. 9 in B-Flat Major, G. 482. Du Pré's interpretation, enhanced by Grützmacher's cadenzas, showcases her lyrical phrasing and dynamic range, leaving a lasting impression.

"The Genius of Jacqueline du Pré" is not just a collection of performances but a testament to du Pré's enduring legacy in the world of classical music. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
