      Album Details

Gil Shaham's 1997 album, "The Fiddler Of The Opera," is a captivating journey through some of the most beloved operatic themes, masterfully reinterpreted for violin and piano. This album showcases Gil Shaham's virtuosity and versatility, as he takes on pieces from iconic operas such as Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia," Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte," and Bizet's "Carmen." The collaboration with pianist Akira Eguchi adds a dynamic depth to the performances, making each track a delightful blend of technical brilliance and emotional resonance.

The album opens with a lively paraphrase of Rossini's "Largo al factotum," setting the tone for a diverse collection that spans various styles and periods within classical music. From the delicate beauty of "Melodie from 'Orfeo ed Euridice'" to the energetic rhythms of "Porgy and Bess" selections, Shaham's interpretations are both faithful to the original compositions and innovative in their approach. The inclusion of pieces like "I Palpiti" and "The Love for Three Oranges" demonstrates Shaham's ability to handle a wide range of musical expressions, from romantic to modern.

With a total runtime of just over an hour, "The Fiddler Of The Opera" is a compact yet comprehensive exploration of operatic themes, offering something for every classical music enthusiast. Whether you're a fan of Shaham's previous work or new to his artistry, this album is a testament to his skill and passion, making it a valuable addition to any music collection.
