      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the serene and contemplative world of Carson Cooman's "The Evening Choir," a captivating collection of sacred choral music released in 2014. This album, a testament to Cooman's mastery of minimalism and contemporary classical styles, features 14 exquisite tracks that blend the sacred and the profound. Sung in both English and Latin, the pieces range from the introspective "The Evening Choir, Op. 959" to the triumphant "Te Deum, Op. 759," each composition showcasing Cooman's unique ability to evoke deep spiritual and emotional resonance.

The album opens with "The Evening Choir, Op. 959," setting a reflective tone that carries throughout the collection. Standout tracks like "Be Ye Wise, Op. 819" and "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place, Op. 937" highlight Cooman's skill in crafting melodies that are both hauntingly beautiful and deeply moving. The four-part series "The Kingdom of Justice, Op. 686" draws from various biblical texts, offering a rich tapestry of musical interpretation and spiritual insight.

Recorded by the Convivium Singers under the direction of Alexander Norman, "The Evening Choir" benefits from the ensemble's precise and expressive performances. The album's duration of one hour and three minutes provides a comprehensive exploration of Cooman's choral compositions, making it an essential addition to any classical music collection.

"The Evening Choir" is not just an album; it's an experience that invites listeners to pause, reflect, and connect with the sacred through the power of music. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or new to the genre, this album offers a profound and enriching listening experience.

Cooman's music has resonated globally, performed on all six inhabited continents in venues as prestigious as Carnegie Hall and as unique as the basket of a hot air balloon. As an organist, he is celebrated for his performances of new music and his expertise on chamber organs. His compositions have been featured on numerous recordings, including over fifteen complete CDs released on major labels such as Naxos, Albany, and MSR Classics.

In addition to his composing and performing, Cooman serves as a Research Associate in Music and Composer in Residence at the Memorial Church.
