      About Edith Mathis

      Edith Mathis, the celebrated Swiss soprano, enchanted audiences worldwide with her exquisite voice and profound musicianship. Born on February 11, 1938, in Lucerne, Switzerland, Mathis became one of the foremost lyric sopranos of her time, renowned for her interpretations of Bach, Mozart, and Weber. Her career, spanning from the late 1950s to the 1990s, was marked by her clear, bright tone and impeccable intonation. Mathis made her operatic debut in 1956 and quickly gained acclaim, particularly for her roles in Mozart's operas, such as Cherubino in "Le nozze di Figaro." Her contributions to classical music, including her stunning performances in requiems, left an indelible mark on the genre. Edith Mathis passed away on February 9, 2025, in Salzburg, Austria, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire music enthusiasts and opera lovers alike.
