      Album Details

William Parker's "Testimony" is a captivating journey into the world of solo double bass, showcasing the artist's extraordinary skill and innovative approach to the instrument. Recorded live at the Knitting Factory on December 28, 1994, this album is Parker's first solo release, and it remains a testament to his virtuosity and creativity.

Originally released in 1995 and quickly selling out, "Testimony" was reissued in 2011 as part of the limited edition 3-CD box set, "Crumbling In the Shadows Is Fraulein Miller's Stale Cake." The album spans a diverse range of genres, including free jazz, avant-garde, jazz, and hard bop, offering a rich and varied listening experience.

With a duration of 1 hour and 18 minutes, the album features five tracks, each a unique exploration of the double bass's capabilities. From the intricate "Sonic Animation" to the heartfelt "Dedication (for Charles Clark & Albert Stinson)," Parker's mastery of the instrument is evident throughout. The album also includes the title track, "Testimony (for Beb Guerin)," a tribute to the Brazilian bassist Beb Guerin.

"Testimony" is not just an album; it's a live performance captured in its raw and unfiltered form. Parker's playing is both technically impressive and deeply expressive, making this a standout release in his extensive discography. Whether you're a longtime fan of William Parker or new to his work, "Testimony" offers a compelling and rewarding listening experience.
