Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Nikolai Tcherepnin's orchestral masterpiece with this captivating album, released on June 5, 2020, by CPO. The album features the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ɓukasz Borowicz, delivering a mesmerizing performance of Tcherepnin's Prelude to "La princesse lointaine", Op. 4, and the full ballet suite Narcisse et Echo, Op. 40.

Spanning a duration of 56 minutes, this album is a journey through the lush, romantic soundscapes of early 20th-century Russian music. The Prelude to "La princesse lointaine", Op. 4, opens the album with a captivating overture, setting the stage for the enchanting tale of Narcisse et Echo that follows.

The ballet suite Narcisse et Echo, Op. 40, is a vivid musical narrative inspired by the ancient Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo. Through 31 distinct tracks, Tcherepnin masterfully depicts the story's dramatic arc, from the awakening of the fauns and sylvans to the tragic fate of Narcissus and Echo. Each movement is a testament to Tcherepnin's exceptional orchestration skills, with rich harmonies and evocative melodies that bring the myth to life.

This album is a must-listen for fans of classical music, particularly those interested in the romantic and post-romantic periods. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the work of Nikolai Tcherepnin, a fascinating Russian composer whose music is less known but equally deserving of attention. The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra's performance is a triumph, capturing the essence of Tcherepnin's compositions with precision and passion. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
