Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos & Encores - Nathan Milstein

      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Nathan Milstein's "Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos & Encores." Released in 2006 under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, this album is a masterful blend of Tchaikovsky's iconic compositions and enchanting encores, spanning a captivating 70 minutes.

The album opens with Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, performed with exquisite precision by Nathan Milstein, accompanied by the Wiener Philharmoniker under the baton of Claudio Abbado. This concerto, a cornerstone of the violin repertoire, is followed by a delightful array of encores that showcase Milstein's virtuosity and versatility. From the delicate "Canzonetta" by Tchaikovsky to the lively "Hopak" from "Sorochinsky Fair," arranged by Rachmaninoff, each piece is a testament to Milstein's artistic brilliance.

The album also features lesser-known gems like Schubert's "Rondo in B Minor" and Liszt's "Consolations," arranged for violin and piano, offering a refreshing contrast to the more familiar works. Milstein's interpretations are nuanced and expressive, bringing a fresh perspective to these beloved pieces.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos & Encores" is a must-listen. Nathan Milstein's impeccable technique and profound musicality shine through in every note, making this album a true gem in the world of classical music.

      About Nathan Milstein

Nathan Milstein, born in Odessa in 1904, was a virtuoso violinist whose career spanned over six decades, leaving an indelible mark on the classical music world. Known for his silken tone, superb technique, and stylish phrasing, Milstein was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of J.S. Bach's unaccompanied violin sonatas and works from the Romantic repertoire. His career began under the tutelage of the renowned Leopold Auer in St. Petersburg and flourished after he left Russia in 1925, touring Europe with his friend Vladimir Horowitz. Milstein's recordings, which include masterful performances of concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Bruch, are testament to his ceaseless search for fresh interpretations and his seemingly inexhaustible reservoir of fingerings. His humanity and purity of playing set him apart, earning him the title of "probably the most nearly perfect violinist of his age" by Harold C. Schonberg of the New York Times. Milstein's legacy endures through his extensive discography and the enduring influence of his artistry on generations of violinists.
