      Album Details

Kirill Gerstein's "Tchaikovsky & Prokofiev: Piano Concertos" is a remarkable 2015 release that offers a fresh perspective on two iconic piano concertos. This album is notable for being the first recording to use the new scholarly edition by the Tchaikovsky Archive and Museum in Moscow of the 1879 version of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. Gerstein's interpretation brings a unique and unfamiliar approach to these familiar pieces, making it a standout in the classical piano repertoire.

The album features seven tracks, including both Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor and Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 16. Each movement is meticulously performed, showcasing Gerstein's technical prowess and deep understanding of the compositions. The Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, conducted by James Gaffigan, provides a rich and dynamic accompaniment, enhancing the overall listening experience.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 5 minutes, this album is a testament to Gerstein's ability to breathe new life into classical masterpieces. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this recording offers a captivating journey through the works of two of the most celebrated composers in history.
