      Album Details

Dive into the rich tapestry of classical chamber music with the Nash Ensemble's latest release, "Tchaikovsky, Korngold: String Sextets." This captivating album, released on March 1, 2024, under the esteemed Hyperion label, showcases the ensemble's virtuosity and deep musical insight. The album features two masterpieces of the string sextet repertoire: Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence," Op. 70, and Korngold's String Sextet in D Major, Op. 10.

The Nash Ensemble brings a sense of drive and energy to Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence," with a rich sound and opulent vibrato that highlights the composer's lyrical genius and structural brilliance. The four-movement work, composed during Tchaikovsky's stay in Florence, is a testament to his ability to capture the essence of a place and time, blending Italian influences with his signature Russian romanticism.

Korngold's String Sextet in D Major, Op. 10, composed in 1917, is a work of remarkable maturity and sophistication for a composer so young. The Nash Ensemble navigates the sextet's complex harmonies and intricate counterpoint with ease, revealing the work's lyrical beauty and structural ingenuity. The four movements, from the Moderato-Allegro opening to the Presto finale, showcase Korngold's unique voice and his mastery of the string sextet form.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 10 minutes, this album is a treasure trove of musical delights, expertly performed by one of the world's leading chamber ensembles. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire. The Nash Ensemble's commitment to artistic excellence and their deep understanding of the repertoire shine through in every note, making this a recording that will be cherished by listeners for years to come.
