Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Schumann - Vladimir Ashkenazy

      Album Details

Vladimir Ashkenazy, the renowned Soviet-born Icelandic pianist, chamber music performer, and conductor, presents a captivating collection of classical masterpieces in his album "Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Schumann." Released on July 6, 2020, under the label JSC "Firma Melodiya," this album is a testament to Ashkenazy's virtuosity and his deep connection with the classical repertoire.

The album spans a generous 80 minutes, featuring seven tracks that showcase the brilliance of three iconic composers: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Béla Bartók, and Robert Schumann. Ashkenazy's interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23, is a highlight, with its three movements offering a range of emotions from the majestic Andante to the fiery Allegro con fuoco. The Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, Sz. 110, by Bartók, is another standout, with Ashkenazy's delicate touch and precision bringing out the intricate details of this complex piece. The album concludes with Schumann's Andante and Variations in B-Flat Major, Op. 46, WoO 10, a piece that reflects Schumann's lyrical and introspective side.

Ashkenazy's collaboration with the USSR State Symphony Orchestra and pianist Konstantin Ivanov adds depth and richness to the performances. The album is a remastered reissue, ensuring that the sound quality is as pristine as the performances themselves. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rewarding listening experience that highlights the enduring appeal of these timeless compositions.
