      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Alexandre Tansman's symphonic masterpieces with the album "Tansman: Symphonies Nos. 4, 5 & 6." This compelling collection, released on January 1, 2006, under the Chandos label, showcases the brilliance of the Polish-Jewish composer who spent most of his life in Paris. The album features three of Tansman's most profound symphonies, performed by the esteemed Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Oleg Caetani, with the Melbourne Chorale joining for the final symphony.

The album spans a total of 1 hour and 8 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of musical expression. Symphony No. 4 in C-Sharp Minor unfolds in three movements, each revealing a different facet of Tansman's compositional genius. The symphony begins with a haunting Adagio, transitions into a decisive Allegro, and concludes with a playful Allegro giocoso. Symphony No. 5 in D Major, composed during Tansman's wartime exile in the US, is a four-movement journey that begins with a serene Lento, followed by an introspective Intermezzo, a lively Scherzo, and a contemplative Finale. The album culminates with Symphony No. 6, "In Memoriam," a poignant tribute that incorporates a diverse range of instruments and vocal elements, culminating in a powerful choral finale.

This album is a testament to Tansman's ability to blend traditional symphonic forms with innovative orchestration and emotional depth. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this collection offers a rewarding exploration of Tansman's symphonic landscape.
