      Laurindo Almeida, born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1917, was a virtuoso guitarist and composer whose music transcended genres, blending classical, jazz, and Latin influences to create a unique and captivating sound. A pioneer of bossa nova, Almeida's innovative compositions and performances earned him a place among the elite of Brazilian/American guitarists. He was the first guitarist to receive Grammy Awards in both classical and jazz categories, a testament to his versatility and mastery. Almeida's discography spans over a hundred recordings, including the world premiere recording of Heitor Villa-Lobos' Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra.
