      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Polish classical music with Karol Szymanowski's "Stabat Mater - Litania - Demeter," a captivating collection released on April 1, 2013, under the DUX label. This album is a testament to Szymanowski's mastery of blending traditional Polish musical elements with the grandeur of classical composition.

The centerpiece of the album is Szymanowski's "Stabat Mater," Op. 53, a profound and moving work set to a Polish translation of the medieval Latin poem. This piece is renowned for its extensive use of traditional Polish musical ideas, offering a unique and culturally rich listening experience. The album also features "Litania do Marii Panny" (Litany to the Virgin Mary), Op. 59, a work that showcases Szymanowski's ability to weave intricate vocal harmonies with orchestral depth. The final piece, "Demeter," Op. 37b, adds a layer of mythological intrigue, further enriching the album's diverse repertoire.

Performed by the esteemed Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Polish Radio Choir, under the baton of Antoni Wit, this album benefits from exceptional musical craftsmanship. The performances are complemented by the vocal talents of Jadwiga Rappe, Jadwiga Gadulanka, and Andrzej Hiolski, each bringing their unique interpretations to Szymanowski's compositions.

With a duration of 43 minutes, this album is a concise yet powerful exploration of Szymanowski's musical genius. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, "Stabat Mater - Litania - Demeter" offers a compelling journey through the heart of Polish classical music.

      About Karol Szymanowski

Karol Szymanowski, born in 1882, was a pioneering Polish composer and pianist, celebrated as one of Poland's most significant musical figures since Frédéric Chopin. A key member of the modernist Young Poland movement, Szymanowski's work is characterised by its exotic and richly perfumed language, reflecting his unique artistic vision. Born into a family of landowners in Ukraine, his life and music were deeply influenced by the political and social upheavals of his time, particularly the reshaping of Europe after the First World War. Szymanowski's compositions, which span various genres within the classical tradition, are known for their individuality and profound emotional depth. His piano works, in particular, are renowned for their distinctive cycles and innovative approach. Beyond his compositions, Szymanowski was also a notable thinker and educator, leaving a lasting impact on Polish music and culture.
