      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the profound and often overlooked sacred work of Franz von Suppé with his powerful "Requiem." This album, released in 2013, offers a compelling exploration of the Austrian composer's lesser-known but deeply moving Requiem mass. Known predominantly for his light operettas, Suppé's Requiem showcases his versatility and depth as a composer, providing a rich and introspective listening experience.

The album features a stunning performance by the Munich Philharmonic Chorus and Philharmonie Festiva, conducted by Gerd Schaller, capturing the essence of Suppé's composition with precision and passion. The thirteen tracks, spanning over an hour and fourteen minutes, include iconic sections such as "Requiem aeternam," "Dies irae," and "Lacrymosa," each rendered with a sense of solemnity and reverence.

Suppé, born Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo de Suppé, was an Austrian composer whose contributions to theatre music and operettas are well-documented. However, his Requiem mass stands as a testament to his ability to compose deeply spiritual and reflective music. This album is a rare opportunity to experience Suppé's sacred music, offering a unique perspective on his artistic range.

Whether you are a fan of classical music or simply seeking a profound listening experience, Franz von Suppé's "Requiem" is an album that will captivate and inspire. The intricate harmonies and powerful vocals create an atmosphere of contemplation and beauty, making it a standout addition to any music collection.

      About Franz von Suppé

Franz von Suppé, born Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo de Suppé in 1819, is celebrated as the creator of the Viennese operetta. Born in Split, Dalmatien (now Croatia), Suppé's musical journey began despite his initial studies in law, as his father wished. His prolific career spanned over two centuries, leaving behind more than 200 stage works, predominantly operettas. Suppé's compositions, including the renowned overtures to "Dichter und Bauer" and "Leichte Kavallerie," have solidified his status as one of the most significant operetta composers, standing alongside giants like Jacques Offenbach, Johann Strauss, and Karl Millöcker. His first operetta, "Das Pensionat," premiered in 1860, marking the beginning of a genre that would define his legacy. Suppé's contributions to the world of music continue to enchant audiences worldwide.
