      Album Details

John Ogdon, a name synonymous with virtuosity and passion in the classical music realm, presents a captivating album featuring two distinct yet equally compelling works. The album opens with Stravinsky's "Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra, K50," a piece that showcases Ogdon's technical prowess and interpretive depth. The three movements, ranging from the lively "Presto" to the introspective "Andante rapsodico" and the spirited "Allegro capriccioso ma tempo giusto," offer a journey through Stravinsky's intricate compositions.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Shostakovich's "Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 35." This four-movement concerto is a testament to Ogdon's ability to convey the profound emotional depth and complexity of Shostakovich's music. From the dramatic "Allegro moderato" to the serene "Lento," and culminating in the energetic "Moderato" and "Allegro con brio," Ogdon's performance is nothing short of breathtaking.

Recorded in 1972 and released under Universal Music Australia Pty. Ltd., this album is a timeless addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. With a total duration of 38 minutes, it's a concise yet powerful exploration of two masterpieces, performed by one of the most celebrated pianists of the 20th century. Whether you're a seasoned classical aficionado or a newcomer to the genre, John Ogdon's interpretation of these works is sure to leave a lasting impression.
