      Album Details

Dive into the avant-garde jazz realm with Sabir Mateen's "Sound Gathering," a captivating album released in March 2010. This sonic journey is a testament to Mateen's prowess as a saxophonist and composer, featuring the masterful trombonist Steve Swell on every track. Joining them is Norwegian saxophonist Frode Gjerstad, creating a powerful trio that pushes the boundaries of free jazz.

"Sound Gathering" is a collection of six intricate compositions, each exploring unique textures and rhythms. The album opens with "Air Conditioning," setting the tone with its raw, energetic interplay between Mateen and Swell. "Another Beginning" showcases the trio's improvisational skills, while "After the Break" offers a more introspective moment. "Talkin' With David" pays homage to the legendary David Murray, and "Sound Gathering" itself is a standout track that highlights the band's collective virtuosity. The album concludes with "Til' the Next Time," leaving the audience eager for more.
