      About Eugen Suchoň

      Eugen Suchoň, born on September 25, 1908, in Pezinok, Slovakia, was a pioneering composer who laid the foundations of modern Slovak music. Renowned as one of the most influential and respected Slovak composers of the 20th century, Suchoň's work is deeply rooted in Slovak folk music, blending traditional melodies with innovative compositions. His notable works include the first Slovak national opera, "Krútňava," and other significant pieces like "Svätopluk." Suchoň's talents were recognized internationally, serving as vice-president of the international copyright protection organization CISAC and as a member of the East German Academy of Arts. Beyond his compositions, he was also a dedicated educator and author of textbooks on harmony, contributing to the development of contemporary Slovak music. Eugen Suchoň passed away on August 5, 1993, in Bratislava, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire.
