      Billy Drummond, born Willis Robert Drummond Jr. on June 19, 1959, in Newport News, Virginia, is a celebrated American jazz drummer and composer who has made significant waves in the jazz world. Starting his musical journey at the tender age of four, inspired by his drummer father, Billy honed his skills and eventually rose to prominence in the late 1980s as a member of the bands of jazz legends Horace Silver, J.J. Johnson, and Sonny Rollins. Known for his dynamic and innovative drumming, Billy has been heralded by Downbeat as "one of the hippest bandleaders" in the scene. Beyond his performances, Billy is also a respected educator, serving as a Professor of Drums at Juilliard and NYU in New York. His latest album, "Valse Sinistre," released in August 2023, showcases his continued evolution as a musician and composer. With a career spanning decades, Billy Drummond remains a vital and influential figure in the world of jazz.
