      Album Details

Cannonball Adderley's seminal 1958 album, Somethin' Else, is a landmark recording in the hard bop and cool jazz genres. Recorded on 9 March 1958 and released later that year on Blue Note Records, this iconic LP features a stellar lineup, including the legendary Miles Davis on trumpet, Hank Jones on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Art Blakey on drums. As a member of Davis' group at the time, Adderley's collaboration with his esteemed colleagues resulted in a truly exceptional album.

The six-track album is a masterclass in jazz, with each song showcasing the musicians' incredible talent and chemistry. From the opening notes of 'Autumn Leaves' to the closing bars of 'Bangoon (aka Alison's Uncle)', Somethin' Else is a captivating listening experience. The title track, 'Somethin' Else', is a particular highlight, with Davis' contemplative playing and Adderley's stirring saxophone work combining to create a sense of restrained exultancy.

With a duration of 44 minutes, Somethin' Else is a concise yet powerful statement of intent from one of jazz's most beloved figures. The album's influence can still be felt today, and its blend of hard bop, jazz, bebop, cool jazz, and jazz blues makes it a must-listen for fans of the genre. Somethin' Else is a testament to the enduring legacy of Cannonball Adderley and his collaborators, and its music continues to inspire and delight audiences to this day.
